Consulting engineering professionals get interesting, challenging, and varied work, and they typically earn well above market rates.

Solid Advantage constantly seeks new talent.   We would like to hear from seasoned candidates with mainstream skills that match client needs – design-related disciplines like machine or tool design, robotics, electro-mechanical packaging, industrial automation, mechanical analysis, fluid dynamics, drafting per ANSI Y14.5/GD&T, etc. 

There is also room on our team for MS Windows application developers with CAD-related abilities.

Consulting requires technical depth.  Solid Advantage typically accepts Engineers, Application Developers, or Mechanical Designers who have achieved Senior status, and demonstrate proven expertise in our core competencies, or who add new capability.

When candidates register with us, upon acceptance, they become Solid Advantage Associates, who are then eligible to receive offers.  There is no fee.  Solid Advantage is an engineering consultancy, not an employment agency – we retain consultants in a long-term, partner-like business arrangement.  Associates are paid for billable hours worked.

Solid Advantage designs primarily with Solid Edge CAD software.  From time to time, we may work in other CAD systems.  Advanced skill with 3D mechanical CAD is required.  Those who do not already know Solid Edge must be willing to master it quickly.

Consulting opportunities cover a range, from short projects completed in a few hours at home, to full-time, on-site, team involvements.  Some Associates work full time, some part time.  Some have corporate careers and want additional income.  A consulting model can include talented engineers, designers, and drafters in many situations, from the engineering student, to the moonlighting mid-career professional, to retirees who prefer to stay in the game.  Many contracts are completed in home offices.

Basic Requirements:

Computer related -- A powerful PC capable of running CAD software well.  (Specs are given in the questionnaire.) A portable workstation is preferred.  Broadband internet access is pre-requisite.

Software related – Working knowledge of Solid Edge, or willingness to invest in oneself by mastering Solid Edge quickly on one’s own (uncompensated), with guidance.  This usually takes 1 to 3 weeks for those who have extensive experience with any solid modeling system.  Solid Edge is extremely easy to learn and use, and very well documented with extensive help and built-in tutorials.  Solid Advantage Consulting can provide the software in some instances.

Personal qualities -- An entrepreneurial mindset, excellent cash flow management, focus on customer needs and satisfaction, ability to think out of the box, high frustration tolerance, good basic drive, sterling business ethics, ability to get along with all kinds of people, willingness to travel for some assignments, and ability to engineer like a businessman.
